Six months late…(UT/AZ/CO)

My previous attempt to inspire myself to write about our trip out West seemingly failed, so I’m going to keep this ridiculously late recap simple (as simple as a wordy writer can):

  1. Moab is an absolute dream destination for outdoor lovers of all types. National Parks? Got ’em. Mountain biking? Well of course. Hiking and incredible off-roading? CHECKED. On our second trip, we honed our off-roading skills on a full day of training and then ventured out for a variety of bumps and drops and climbs, with “Fins N Things” being a major highlight alongside Gemini Bridges and the Schafer Trail.
  2. Capitol Reef NP: The Cassidy Arch Trail was gorgeous. Do it if you make it all the way out there.
  3. Bullfrog, UT and Lake Powell: Bullfrog is incredibly remote by my standards. Lake Powell is beautiful but if you’re renting a boat, do heed the warnings of bad weather (WIND). It went from calm-ish to a powerful windstorm in seconds, so I am grateful that the husband is a formidable captain. Yikes.
  4. Monument Valley: Totally stunning, and also quite remote.
  5. Ouray, CO: We landed here after ski season and before summer, so much was closed in the area and things were generally sleepy. It’s still gorgeous, though, surrounded by the imposing Rockies and was still snowy in almost mid-April.

It was overall a memorable and highly adventurous trip. I think I’m ready for tropical-style relaxation…..(hint hint — but not before two other stops)..
